BWC provides workers compensation insurance to about two-thirds
of Ohio's work force. The remaining workers receive coverage directly
through their employers. With more than $21 billion in assets, BWC is
the largest exclusive state-fund workers compensation system in
the United States and the second largest underwriter of workers
compensation insurance in the country.

Commission of Ohio The BWC is responsible for collecting workers'
compensation insurance premiums, overseeing the insurance system, and
paying out compensable claims. The IC steps in when a BWC claim is disputed.
Specifically, the IC is responsible for (1) providing a forum for fair
and impartial claims resolution, (2) conducting hearings on disputed
claims, (3) adjudicating claims involving an employer's violation of
specific safety requirements, and (4) determining eligibility for Permanent
Total Disability benefits
