Ohio Chamber
Supports Elimination of Kilowatt Hour Tax Increase
The Ohio Chamber
of Commerce applauds House and Senate leaders for their aggressive search
for additional ways to turn our states economy around. Their proposal
to eliminate the 30 percent kilowatt hour tax increase is a significant
step toward helping to make Ohio more competitive.
The elimination of the kilowatt hour tax increase will enhance
the ability of all Ohio businesses, especially manufacturers, to compete
in the global market place, said Daniel Navin, Ohio Chamber managing
director of legislative affairs. Combined with many of the other
positive tax reforms in the budget bill, this action sends a powerful
message that will strengthen Ohios ability to attract new capital
investment and jobs.
An increase in the kilowatt hour tax was initially proposed in HB 66
(Calvert, R-Medina), the states FY 2006-07 operating budget. Earlier
this year, the Ohio Chamber urged legislators to significantly reduce
or eliminate the proposed tax increase in its testimony before the House
and Senate Ways & Means Committees.
Founded in 1893, the Ohio Chamber of Commerce is Ohio's largest statewide
business advocacy group. The Chamber works to promote and protect the
interests of its members - large and small - while building a more favorable
Ohio business climate.
