Canididate Recruitment

Voter-approved term limits now result in regular turnover in the makeup of the Ohio General Assembly. Take a minute to consider the results.

In 2004, voters will send eight freshmen to the Ohio Senate – more if any incumbents lose. Nearly 25% of the 33-member Senate that will be serving their first elected terms. In the House, at least 17 of the 99 representatives will be freshmen.

Looking ahead to 2006, eight Senate seats and 13 House seats will be open.

Labor unions, personal injury attorneys, environmental activists and other groups that oppose many pro-business legislative initiatives are already searching for their own candidates to fill these vacancies. If their candidates are elected to office, the pro-business legislative environment at the Statehouse could suffer – with ill effects for your business.

You have the power to stop that from happening.

Business-minded individuals can win those vacant legislative seats. By identifying the right candidates to run for office and helping them win, you can ensure that new pro-business legislators can make Ohio a better place for business expansion and job creation. It's certainly a challenging opportunity. And the Ohio Chamber and P.a.C.E. can help you make it happen – with minimal effort.

The Ohio Chamber is always on the lookout for fresh candidates with a strong commitment to the free enterprise system – especially those with significant private sector work experience.

So please, take a look around. Do you know someone that fits this description? Maybe it’s your co-worker. Maybe it’s someone you know who’s involved in your local chamber of commerce. Maybe it’s you.

If you're thinking about becoming a candidate, contact P.a.C.E. first! Or, if you know a person who might make a good candidate in your area, just drop ane-mail with his or her name to us at klake@ohiochamber.com. We’ll take it from there.
