After two years of
work, on January 8, 2003, Governor Bob Taft signed SB 120 into
law. This new law replaces Ohio’s old system of joint and several
liability with a proportionate liability system. With the passing of SB
120, defendants who are 50 percent or less responsible for a plaintiff’s
injuries pay only their proportionate share of the damages.

piece of legislation.
